Composing music is a creative and satisfying type of work, but it can be a little overwhelming at first if the student doesn’t have a solid foundation to start on. This class will do just that—help the student tap into their creativity and build their foundation of musical knowledge to create future compositions.
In this class, students will learn how to create a musical “motive” and learn to expand on that motive. Students will choose the style, or genre, of the musical piece, such as pop, classical, country, etc. They will be guided on how to choose the “key” for the piece, and determine what form the piece. After choosing the key and determining the form, students will then create the rhythm and chord structure of the piece. Finally, students will learn the basics of writing lyrics.
